Wanted to see if adding a skills section to my .résumé would work. I don’t hate it, but I think it can be formatted
better. Otherwise just rewording somethings here and there.

Truth be told, I don’t really have an update to post, but I haven’t in a while, so I wanted to toss something up.

Not much to say really though; I started a new job after Toshiba doing Continuing Product Development. That is
to say that developers are precious princesses who can’t be bothered to do things like “maintain” or “fix” their
code after the write it, so they hired me to do that. It’s a solid job though; it pays well and keep me at that
right level of feeling stupid because I’m not figuring stuff out quickly enough (too easy and I’ll get bored, too
hard and I’ll get over stressed).

I should hustle more legal work though. I haven’t been doing enough of that.

Minor project page update

Finally got around to putting something on the .projects page.

I had a small vehicle issue driving to work last week which forced my hand and led me to buy a car sooner than I had
planned too (though not by much). It did relieve some of the stress from my plate though so I finally got around to
making an update I’ve been meaning to do.

Somewhere around 10 years ago I interviewed with a small local company that basically existed to solve problems and
improve the performance of other company’s equipment. Like improve the sensors in airplane shock absorbers to better
estimate the life of the part. It was kind of like a small engineering company, but no one there was a licensed engineer
(so they couldn’t sign off on things, just propose solutions for companies to implement). I loved the company after
the interview; everyone I met was great and the work seemed interesting and entertaining. Sadly, though they were
extending me an offer, contracts fell through and they didn’t get the funding that they thought the had, so it never
came to be.

Regardless, part of the interview was a basic coding sample question. The idea was that they were scanning the profile
of a screw and they needed to fine the peaks and valleys of the thread. I wrote more than they expected, but I had to figure out some math I had never used before, so the excess was mostly for me. What I sent them I posted over on the cardinal splines post.

Passed the Bar

Unfortunately, life is still getting in the way. Mostly car shopping and it’s keeping me from
more interesting things that I should be working on and putting up on the .projects page.
Plus work is getting into crunch time and I need to make sure that I’m carrying my weight. So hopefully soon…

No more classes

Classes are finished. Well, finals this week, but nothing I’m too worried about.

I said last time I’d have something up soon. Clearly I failed at this. Life got in the way with a new job and school
and what not. I’ve got a plan for some stuff for the .projects page and since my evenings
and weekends now consist of “study for the bar” I probably will need a distraction every now and again. Hopefully I
update sooner than once a month though.

Started with Toshiba as a contractor at the beginning of the month. Ran into a guy last week who, right before I was
brought on, was laid off after 15 years. He was on a different team than I joined, so I didn’t take over his role
but his old office would have been within throwing distance of mine. Small world I guess.

I got distracted

I really did mean to update after that last post, but it’s been a busy two weeks. I’ve got some more up now though.

I figured that school and some volunteer work took precedence, so I was tied up with that. Plus, there was some
Jekyll magic I was trying to figure out. Of course, I later learned that i was doing things the wrong way and
switched to a “better” approach.

The .projects page is still missing. I know this. I’ve got some old code
to seed it with, but I don’t feel like putting in much of a place holder until I get that up. At least I got the
.about and .résumé pages up. I’m not entirely happy
with how .résumé displays, but it gets the information across, but part of that is from
markdown not being the quite right format for me to be using. I
might have to redo it in straight HTML or build a template. It works for now though.

Still a few pages that need to be done, but they will come in time. Mostly I just wanted to figure
out this Jekyll and Github pages stuff. So far it seems to be straightforward and looks like I’ll
be spending more time trying to figure out CSS settings.
